This letter was sent to the Senate on July 15, 2015, urging Senators to vote NO on final passage of S. 1177, the Every Child Achieves Act of 2015, a bill reauthorizing the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (“ESEA”). The ACLU opposes the Every Child Achieves Act in its current form, as the bill falls short of upholding the principle that all students should have the equal opportunity to a high-quality, safe, and supportive learning environment and undermines the legacy of the ESEA as an important civil rights law.
