Remember the Responsible Education About Life (REAL) Act? Introduced last February, the Act would provide states with funding to teach sexuality education that includes information on both abstinence and contraception, and funding for these programs would match federal dollars currently earmarked for abstinence-only-until-marriage education. Sound familiar?

Well, not surprisingly, it continues to sit in Congress.

After all, REAL requires that sexuality education contains age-appropriate and medically accurate information that is also free from religion (we all remember Louisiana’s GPA Program and the Silver Ring Thing right?). In addition to a requirement that students are taught that abstinence is the only sure way to avoid pregnancy and STDs, but that using contraceptives can significantly reduce the risk of both.

Highly controverisal, I know.
