Civil rights organizations plan Monday press conference on shooting death of New Bedford teen

BOSTON — On Monday, January 14 at 12:30pm, civil rights organizations will hold a press conference in New Bedford regarding the fatal shooting of 15-year-old Malcolm Gracia by New Bedford police officers

WHO: The American Civil Liberties Union of Massachusetts, the New England Area Conference of the NAACP, the New Bedford Branch of the NAACP and the Lawyers Committee for Civil Rights and Economic Justice
Following the May 17, 2012 shooting, the office of the Bristol District Attorney led an investigation into the circumstances surrounding Gracia’s death. A report of that investigation released several months later concluded that the stop of Gracia was warranted and that the shooting was justified. At Monday’s press conference, the four civil rights organizations will release a statement reviewing the District Attorney’s report and calling for further inquiry into the events of May 17.
