Akari Angye et al v. ICE

People detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in a large tent encampment on a military base in the El Paso desert sued the Trump administration regarding unsafe and inhumane conditions. The tent encampment, called Camp East Montana, is the largest ICE detention facility in the country. The lawsuit—brought on behalf of everyone who is or will be incarcerated at Camp East Montana—alleges that people are forced into crowded and windowless tents for at least 23 hours a day, are deprived of sunlight, endure beatings and harassment by guards, are placed in solitary confinement indiscriminately, receive grossly inadequate healthcare, and are exposed to measles, tuberculosis, and coccidioidomycosis. Three people already have died at Camp East Montana, including someone who reportedly was killed by guards after asking for his asthma inhaler, and there have been repeated outbreaks of measles and tuberculosis. The lawsuit challenges the operation of Camp East Montana under the U.S. Constitution and Administrative Procedure Act.
