This document is an ACLU letter of support for Amendment #11 to H.R. 6, the 21st Century Cures Act. The overarching bill aims to accelerate the discovery, development and delivery of new medical cures in the United States. However, a provision added at the last minute would subject the National Institutes of Health (NIH) fund to harmful policy riders, including the Hyde Amendment, which is a policy rider that excludes abortion coverage from government health care plans in most circumstances. Amendment #11 would strike this language and prevent the expansion of Hyde.
