NEW YORK — The Trump administration is reportedly planning to issue regulations that would allow any employer to claim a religious exemption that enables it to deny any employee insurance coverage for contraception.

Louise Melling, deputy legal director of the American Civil Liberties Union, had the following reaction:

“The proposed regulation that was leaked today is the latest in a long line of efforts from the Trump administration to make it harder for millions of Americans, particularly women, to get the health care coverage they need. Any rule that allows employers to deny contraceptive coverage to their employees is an attempt at allowing religion to be used as a license to discriminate. We’ll see the Trump administration in court if they try to follow through on these plans.”
