Get on the BusI'm back in New York after an action-packed, anti-Stupak day at the capitol. It was exhilarating — buses from all over, from Mississippi and Wisconsin and Maine; an overflow crowd at the noon rally (did you catch I said overflow!); and a parade of representatives and senators – Sens. Boxer and Murray, and Reps. DeGette, Nadler, Maloney, Capps, Lowey, Edwards, Harman, Slaughter, and DeLauro among others.
And over and over, it was a reminder that every day needs to be anti-Stupak day, in full force, if we are to win. And win we must. I joined a group of college students from the University of Connecticut in a meeting with Rep. Joe Courtney, who represents the district that includes my hometown of 1,000. It's democratic territory. The congressman did the right thing. He voted against Stupak. He voted for health care reform. He is pro-choice. The meeting was a wake-up call. He said he has received many calls in support of Stupak and that, until recently, it would seem that our adversaries have been dominating the public conversation as well. It's their voices in the letters to the editors and on the radio — and with effect. He told of visiting seniors, where he expected to face a raft of questions about the impact of health care on Medicare. This surprised me. The seniors were as concerned about the prospect of public funding being used for abortion as they were about Medicare.
We need, he said, to be out there — reaching out to our senators and representatives. We need to tell the White House what we think and what we want in the final bill. We need to let our voices be heard in the media, of all forms. And we have good reason to raise our voices. We can't and shouldn't tolerate further restrictions on abortion coverage. We can't and shouldn't tolerate a measure that leaves women worse off than before health care reform. And we surely can't agree to the Faustian bargain we are being offered — women will make real gains in health care, but only if we throw access to abortion coverage under the bus. We need to get in the drivers' seat. Tags: Stop Stupak

Exhilarating - Stopping a new life - while making sure a convicted criminal's life is spared. Doesn't make much sense. Just one big party. Perhaps we should make it a real tv event!

Get on the bus? Here's a thought...if we continue to "murder" innocent children, no one will exist to get on the bus!

Yeah, yeah, yadda, yadda, "we have good reasons to raise our voices." Please hear me out. I'm sure you've heard this a gazillion times, but I'd like to bring this issue to hand again. Murder. Killing. I have absolutely no doubt that you wouldn't mind pulling out a .49 pisol and firing at innocent adults going about their own business... Anymore than you'd kill an even more-so innocent baby in the arms of a loving mother walking on the street. No(extremely sarcasically)!!!! Well then. You must have a simple time killing a baby who isn't even born yet. Who never had a chance to walk, smell the roses, talk, or love, or live... only Die. Death. Punishment for something they don't deserve. Is that justice?? Suuure it is. In YOUR eyes. And I hope you're proud of it too. You better be, because that's what you're dedicating your life to. Killing innocent babies. Yeah. Sure, I'm a woman. I understand how a lady would feel if they accidentally become pregnant. But don't, please don't, kill that innocent child inside of you, and furthermore, that child is your fault. The object of your rage, passion. You created that baby, and you are going to kill it. I don't think I could live guilt-free after that. Yeah. I'm sure you could though. Thank you for hearing me out. I really appreciate it, and I hope that it wasn't just another of the other millions of e-mails you got today. Have a Merry Christmas.

Women bodies belong to them not the State or the Church. Women seek abortions for many reasons. Some don't want a baby at that time. Some can't afford another mouth to feed. Some are victums of rape or incest. Of course the Catholic Church knows nothing of that! Right? Some fetus' can threaten the life of the mother if they are not aborted. Would you want your wife or girl friend to die waiting for some bureaucratic board to decide if she is eligible for an abortion? To those who say adoption not abortion. I say look at Ireland. A paridise for the anti-abortionists. Unwed mothers sent to laundries run by the Church. Babies sent to orphanages. Those who obtain an illegal abortion often die. If the anti abortionists have their way it means no condoms to prevent the spread of STD's, no birth control pills and no fun. Than again for the true believers the afterlife is the most important thing.

Who's body is it? Does it belong to the Church, State, Husband or Father? If a women has a miscarage will that be evidence of a illegal abortion? There are many reasons a women may seek an abortion. Can't aford another mouth to feed. Not the right time for the women. The women already has a medical condition that pregnancy and childbirth may endanger. A heart condition or cancer. The pregancy itself may endanger the women. The baby is already dead inside the women. The baby has a genetic defect. Some of these reason may be very serious some may not but who is it that should make the decision? For those who say adoption not abortion I give you Ireland. The anti-abortionist paridise. Young girls become pregnant because the didn't get the facts of life. Children abused Church knew nothing about it! Wisked away to Church laundries so to save ones families honor. Babies sent to orphanages. If the anti abortionists have their way no more condoms to help prevent the spread of STD's or birth control pills and no fun of course. Yet for these people the afterlife is important! Personally I want to enjoy life while I still have it.

How are you here? BIRTH How are the unborn not? ABORTION From a young person living in a liberal country.. this is saddening, and just gives me all the more reason to stand up for what is right! That is pro-life. God bless you.

I love the ACLU Reproductive Freedom Project! Thank you for all you do! Ignore all these comments above (besides the positive ones). Get a new mantra already anti-choicers...snooze! We get it! You're religious, you think a group of cells is equal to the women carrying it, you essentially hate women's choices! Ugh...No God of mine would want women to be prisoners in their own body and have no choice!

The concept of fetal rights is too broad, one only needs to look at the case of Angela Carder to see how anti-abortion arguments have been used to hurt women who did NOT intend to terminate their pregnancies.
