In advance of an anticipated May 4 vote on the American Health Care Act (AHCA), the ACLU urged members of the House of Representatives to oppose the legislation. The bill would repeal key provisions of the Affordable Care Act (ACA), block patients from accessing care at Planned Parenthood, place new restrictions on abortion coverage, and radically alter Medicaid’s funding and structure in such a way as to cause great harm to people with disabilities. Recent amendments to the bill would allow states to waive important ACA protections, making the legislation even more harmful and less deserving of support.
