In this letter to the U.S House of Representatives, the ACLU urged Members of Congress to vote “YES” on H.R. 2214, the NO BAN Act, and "NO" on any amendments or other changes proposed to the bill.
While we have significant concerns regarding the language that was added in response to COVID-19, we continue to support this legislation as a critical step forward in rescinding President Trump's Muslim ban, expanded Muslim ban targeting predominately Africans, refugee Muslim ban, and asylum ban. It is essential that the legislation remains intact—without any further changes—so this authority cannot be used to ban whole communities in order to protect all communities against discrimination.
