Sign-on Letter re: Fentanyl and Mandatory Minimums

The ACLU and 13 other organizations wrote to leadership of the Senate Judiciary Committee, and the Subcommittee on Crime and Terrorism, urging them to reject efforts to make mandatory minimum applicable to reduced quantities of fentanyl and its analogues, or to increase the lengths of applicable mandatory minimum sentences. The letter outlines reasons why it is harmful to address the opioid overdose crisis with mandatory minimum sentences, and urges Congress to invest more resources into alternatives that are proven to reduce drug use, addiction, and overdoses, like effective treatment and overdose prevention programs in our communities.
